So, we have this app called Eye Spy which allows you to put your phone in any room within your network. You get a url (an ip address with port number) and can trigger the camera to take pictures and show them to you in your browser from another room.
It, in effect, becomes a security camera. I can put my phone in the front window while I work in my office upstairs and see who is knocking and decide if it worth answering.
We have code that specifically silences the shutter sound so you can take pictures discreetly– it is a Spy app after all. It works great on all my phones. However, some people have been complaining that they cannot turn off the shutter sound. Even turning down the phone volume does not work.
This is probably a security feature of new phones. It will prevent people from sneaking photos in locker rooms and stuff like that. Sounds great to me, but it does cause problems with some of our users.
So, if you are planning on buying Eye Spy, I’d suggest trying the free version out first to make sure you phone is capable of running silently. Most are . . . but there seem to be a few that aren’t.
Happy Spying . . .
