Here is this week’s Minute of Overpass. Here I talk about why we try to use Corona SDK for the majority of our software development.
Hi, this is Eric from Overpass. This is a minute of Overpass where I spend one minute each week talking a little bit about my company, about our apps, and about the app industry in general. So, I’m going to start the timer now for one minute. This week I want to talk about the development platforms that we use. When we started out, we did Ear Spy and all other apps in native code which means that we’ve done the iPhone version will work only on iPhone and the Android version will work only on Android. But what we found was that.. first of all it cost me a lot of money. It caused a lot of aggravation. We have to do a lot of extra code. So, what we’ve done is that we moved to a platform called Corona SDK which everything is written one language called Lua which is very easy to learn but not a lot of people know about it. So, one of the things Overpass did was to hire developers and train them up on this language and let them work on these applications. Now, Corona suits our needs because it fits 80% to 90% of what we need to do. That means we could write code one time. It must be ten times faster than it does a native application and get it deployed in the market quicker. For the past year or so, everything’s been done with Corona SDK. And we find that it works really well for us. That’s it. I’m out of time. My name is Eric. I make apps. If you’re interested in apps, give us a call. If you’re interested in software development, then take a look at Corona SDK. It’s very easy to learn. It’s very quick to deploy. It’s not free but you know, considering the money you make from the apps.. it’s not that expensive either. That’s it. I’ll talk to you next week.
