Corona SDK: Fast Track App Development
Developing an app is not easy. We are constantly look for ways to make it easier.
When developing an app, you can use a native coding language (like Objective C for iPhone or Java for Android) and different code bases for each platform. We have some apps that require multiple developers with different skill sets working on different code bases. It’s not easy.
Some developers will insist that this is how an app must be developed. This is how we started making apps. But, we knew there must be a better way.
There are other application development platforms for building what are called Hybrid apps. These are frameworks that allow you to code once and deploy to several platforms like Android, iPhone, or iPad. You might hear people talk about frameworks like Phonegap, Titanium, or Xamarin.
We’ve experimented with them all and have settled on Corona SDK. Of all the hybrid app platforms, we have found it to be the most responsive and most versatile.
To date we’ve created dozens of games and apps using Corona SDK. The nice thing about Corona is that we can write an app or game once and distribute it (with only minor adjustments) to the Android and iPhone Markets. Windows Phone will be available soon and we’ll be all over that when it is.
Lua is easy
While native Android apps are written in Java and native iOS apps are written in Objective C, Corona SDK uses an intermediary language called Lua. It is easier to learn and, we have found, more versatile for our purposes.
We can create apps quicker and easier in Corona at a fraction of the cost of a full native app. It has become an indispensable technology for Overpass.
When creating your next app, check out Corona SDK as an option. If you are looking for some top-notch talented developers and designers to work with you on them . . . well then, we know some guys. The number is right there at the bottom of this page.
